Upcoming Projects ...

Kai Makana has committed to helping Mokauea Fishing Village Association and those families directly involved with this island from 2005 until 2010.  The goal of the residents and the association is to create and educational center where students, teachers, community members and the public can come to learn the traditional methods used to be self sustaining.  Mokauea Island is considered to be the last fishing village (island) in the State of Hawaii.  Kai Makana has committed to volunteering to restore the island at least once a month.  The following are a list of dates scheduled for this year 2008.

If interested in participating, please email kaimakana@gmail.com to confirm date and receive waiver and directions to the project.
In addition please wear old tennis shoes or running shoes, hat, sunscreen, water bottle, shorts and t-shirt.  Please do not bring anything that cannot get wet or large backpacks.  We get to the island via Outrigger 6-man canoes.  Please inform us if you cannot swim or have other requirements pertaining to transportation.

April 4 – Kamehameha School 7th Grade
Aprill 10 – Kamehameha School 7th Grade

There are several projects that Kai Makana has created, conducted and or partnered with in the State of Hawaii (all islands) as well as New York, Tahiti, New Zealand, and Rapa Nui.  Please let us know how we can help.  If you do not receive a confirmation response pertaining to your email then we did not receive it.  Also, please be aware that Kai Makana is 100% non-profit organization that has no staff (we all have paying jobs) but will try to respond to your request within 24-hours.

 

May 20th - Mokauea Project with Ahupua'a Student Council

June 16th - World Ocean Day - Mokauea Project-partnering with State and Local Agencies as well as Hawaii Pacific University,Waikiki Yacht Club Canoe Club, New Hope Canoe Club, Keahiakahoe Canoe Club, Parents and Children Together (PACT) as well as various other student organizations

July 9 - July 20 - Mokauea Project partnering with Na Pua No'eau - 2 week program to utilize this last fishing village as an educational center to teach students Hawaiian Values, Marine Science and Community resposibility

June 16th - September - Ocean Education Program with students from Kuhio Park Terrace PACT Program - students will elarn how to paddle, ahupua'a concept,
work in a lo'I, water quality testing and various other marine science and cultural values.
